The film shows the story of a friendship. It tells of two boys who become men: Pietro the city boy, Bruno the last child of a forgotten mountain village. Over the years, they go their separate ways. Bruno remains faithful to his familiar homeland with its high peaks, shady valleys and rushing torrents, while Pietro is drawn out into the wide world. Nevertheless, he always returns to the mountains, to this existence of silence, endurance and moderation. What really counts in life? They discover what it means to be true friends for life.
